A thriving native settlement even before the Spaniards came, Naga (then called Ciudad de Nueva Caceres) is the third Spanish royal city in the Philippines, after Manila and Cebu. It was born as an independent component city on June 18m 1948 by virtue of Republic Act No. 305.

Today is a premier city of Bicol, a regional center for education, culture and the arts, religion, trade and commerce, and tourism.

Metro Naga is a group of 16 local government units, led by Naga as flagship city, that have voluntarily come together to pursue common goals, especially in the area of tourism and economic development.
